This is my TimeToast timeline which chronologically describes all the pre and post production stuff we done for our title sequence. The timeline also compares skills used such as transitions, filming, 180degree rule, acting, etc. in our first prelimary task from September and the skills used for our final project and how we have progressed as a group and individuals. Previous sound issues

We've had quite a few sound problems when filming our title sequence. Luckily we where able to re film just the audio parts of the title sequence which allowed us to hear the dialogue better which gives the title sequence or more realistic viewing for the audience. 

Parts that where difficult to hear was when Tim was talking. It would usually go quiet towards the end of him telling his top 5 horror kills and after each one it went quiet so we misheard or couldn't hear the best parts of the action. It was also quite difficult to hear Tim's comical jokes such as 'you know smoking can kill you right?' 

Luckily we re filmed these pieces of audio in a quiet room and imposed them onto the title sequence and this has helped a lot because we are now clearly able to hear the dialogue in our title sequence!!

Final draft of The Juvenile Massacre

Here's the final draft of the opening sequence to The Juvenile Massacre. We have so many hours hard work and effort into this and the project and here is the final piece which probably won't be adjusted again. All three of us (Charlie,Jack,Tim) enjoyed the project and would love the chance to do it again and learnt lots of new things!

Below is an interview that took place where the interviewer asks me several questions in order to get an idea of the reflection that the project had on me.


This allows others to understand the types of things i enjoyed, found difficult, etc. in order to get a better understanding of the project and me in the group.

I answer 6 questions from the interviewer as i give the fans and the audience understanding of the Juvenile Massacre and how i enjoyed or found the experience.






blogging feedback and 3rd health check - charlie


From my final blogging feedback from my teacher on the 3rd health check my teacher said the following...

Your blog is continuing to improve with evidence of some good research and planning along with organised use of time as you develop the production of your title sequence. As we move into the final stages, please can you complete the following in order to continue to develop your blog and aim for a mark in level 4:

- use flickr or a file sharing app to post your photos of filming rather than having them in one long list of images

-check your images / videos and any ICT apps work

- there needs to be more evidence of your group filming

- experiment with your use of ICT and make some posts the reflect on what is going well and what skills you feel you have learned from each stage

- create a WIX for your product that promotes it to your target audience - you could include interviews, a facebook page etc...








From this i can see that to improve i must use more technology and better uses of ICT and use apps of better technology to present the blogs better when we're showing pictures or videos. 
i hope i can achieve this before the end of the project. 

reflection dissapointment -Charlie


There was a scene in our title sequence that did dissapoint me. This was because as we use the dolly cam which is a like a tripod with wheels, there where pictures behind Tim who we where filming and you can see me in the reflection of those picture frames because at the time I was helping Jack move the dolly cam and holding up lines to help Tim rehearse.

This was dissapointing for me because it did show a little amateur side to our title sequence but it is barley noticable for some people unless you point it out to them.

Maybe next time we could have used a different location to avoid that or tried re-taking the scene again at a different angle. The picture where not moveable off the walls so we couldn't completely get rid of the reflections and it would have made the setting look unnatural and set up if the wall looked a plan white because most school or colleges which is where it was suppose to be set, always have pictures or posters or information on the walls.

However that wasn't the only problem we particualry faced while we filmed our title sequence.

How it felt being killed in Juvenile massacre - charlie

In our title sequence 'the juvenile massacre' I played charlie Martini the local school bully who always gets his own way. I enjoyed playing this role because it allowed me to be a little different to what I would be in real life.

I also enjoyed being killed in our title sequence as I've always wanted to role play being dead and I enjoyed the use of the fake blood.

Overall I did think the roles where correctly suited to each character as I played the bully who gets killed well and Tim played the nerd who really is a killer very well also.

Blogging Feedback and 3rd healthcheck


I have done a lot of blogs since this health check, and I believe I might have a higher mark by now.

The points that my teacher had made for me to improve my grade are:

-Put lots of photos for a blog post into a slideshow
-Make sure pitch presentation with reflection on feedback is posted
-Reflect individually on your progress

Since the health check, I have reflected individually on the progress of the sequence and have posted reflection on the feedback for the pitch presentation. Tim and myself are currently dealing with the large amount of photos, trying to put them all into slideshows and Prezi.

In this video, I reflect on the progress made with The Juvenile Massacre. I comment on the shooting and editing of the sequence and how I feel we can improve it. I share my disappointments as well as what exceeded my expectations in the process of making the sequence.

Painful upload times

As I have said before, it can be really painful to upload something to YouTube. I have recorded and edited a reflection video with my thoughts and feeling on our progress so far and how we can improve the sequence. I can't wait to share it with you, however it will take a while to upload it to YouTube before I can post the video to the blog...

Uploading - Waiting, and waiting, and waiting..... - Jack

Sometimes, when you upload a video onto youtube, it can take really long to upload. I remember a couple of weeks ago, I was uploading an 8 minute video in 1080p, and it took around 2 or 3 hours to upload and to process!
Right now, I have been waiting for 20+ minutes to get this interview to upload. In the meantime, I am editing another interview and writing up this quick post.

Evaluation of the Breakfast Club remake

Hi, we will be evaluating the remake that we did of the opening of the popular 80s film the Breakfast Club. We will be talking about the cinematography, sound, editing and mise-en-scene.




Cinematography:
We were able to copy the shots from the opening of the film and place them within our college. However, for some scenes we had to improvise with what we had. For example, there are shots that take place inside of cars. For those we had to use chairs and make it look like we were in cars, however we were still able to get the same shots that took place inside the cars. Also, some of the shots were slightly shaky. This was because we unfortunately only had just over an hour to shoot the scene. Most of the time we used during this was looking for similar places to those used in the original shots. Because of this, we didn't have time to set up a tripod for each shot, which resulted in a shaky camera. However, we learned from this experience how valuable a tripod really is.



Sound:
For sound, we decided to add the sound from the opening scene and place it over our remake as we thought it would add a unique style to the film, however we believe that it made the film seem lazy. We didn't have enough time to say every line from the movie and instead did a poor job at miming the lines from the movie. However, we can justify this to an extent as the main focus of the task was to set up the shots to look almost exactly how they looked in the movie. To be honest, we could have spent a little more time planning for the sound (the dialogue and music). We now value the sound quality, based on this experience.



Editing:
We were able to match the pace of the editing from the original film, we added the credits from the original film before our shots as we thought it would be easier to do that than having to re-create each of the credits. We were not able to replicate the famous glass smashing transition in the beginning of the film, however we did use a different transition. It looks slightly cheesy, however, it was only practice. Since we did this remake of the Breakfast Club opening sequence, we have become better at editing and now believe we are ready to take on the challenge of editing our own title sequence.



Mise-en-scene:
For the Mise-en-scene we did not fully copy how the characters' dressed in the film as we did not have the clothing. Also, as we mentioned, we did not have any cars to film in for the scenes that required them. But however we did make the film look like it was set in a high school which added validity to the world. The mise-en-scene is a vital part of the process of making a film, thus we have made it a primary focus that we get all the props, costume and settings perfect in our real title sequence.

The Tim Chronicles

While filming the sequence, we had to record many takes of each shot. We are going to show you parts of those takes we never used for the final sequence. Also, our shoot was often dusturbed by people walking through the corridoors we shot in, which would ultimately ruin the takes.

Locations prezi - Charlie Lane

31&32. Costumes


In our title sequence we will not have any particular set costumes when planning. Our movie is based in a high school or college meaning that it there is no particular clothing needed for our title sequence.

Our characters will mostly just dress in jeans and t-shirts and normal stereotypical male clothing for college/school or just normal everyday life. Tim who will be the killer has to change his t-shirts during filming in the title sequence because of the shot when he gets my blood on him. He will change his t-shirt to indicate that he has cleaned up and covered his crime. He will wear a white t-shirt which is ruined by blood but will change into a black t-shirt after the killing scene. I will wear the same jeans and jumper throughout.

It is important that we wear the same clothes because we obviously have to make the title sequence seem real and believable. We will also film at different dates so making sure we wear exactly the same costumes is important and has to be remembered.

How we have found filming and editing so far - Charlie



We have just finished our second rough draft of our editing process of our title sequence. So far i still think that the project has been tiring and quite time consuming but in many ways rewarding. We have been able to use so many different types of new technologys such as camera and tripods and dolly cams and final cut pro which has increased our IT skills throughout the project.

We have seen new locations and learnt new things in the world of media and different types of social networking.

However, it has been very challenging in many ways. We have had to devote a lot of time around the  filming and editing process so far. We've had to loose a few lunchtimes in order to be able to successfully film and complete other tasks with filming.

Overall, i have found the filming enjoyable so far, more enjoyable than the editing process but editing is more detailed and i think it more difficult because you have to concentrate more on the editing process. We hope to have completed the full title sequence in the forthcoming week/s and to be able to finish off all blog posting.

Rough Draft 2




Here is the second rough draft of the sequence. Our teacher has given us a few things to change.

-Fade to black a the end before the bell sounds
-Start the sequence with a close up/POV shot of Tim's character starting the drawing of the stick people
-Make the shot of Charlie's character a little shorter
-Make the shot of Charlie's character getting the cigarettes shorter
-Make the intro to the top 5 horror kills a match cut
-Automation on that same shot (make the audio louder as Tim walks further from the camera)

Rendering

Rendering the idents for the sequence is taking a while. We have been waiting for 20 minutes so far. It never takes as long as it says it will. Remember that, kids. It can be very frustrating when this happens because it slows down the pace of our work and editing process.

our filming location - charlie Lane

                



Our filming location took place at a arts school called WAC Arts located in Belsize Park. It was very good to be able to film here because some of their rooms in the school where similar to the ones we created when producing our title
sequence.


It was easy to get to as it took us 20 minutes on the tube and even though we where disrupted at times when filming we where still able to successfully film. It was also useful that Tim usually attends
WAC Arts otherwise we may not have been able to film there which would have been difficult for us.

Filming at WAC Arts was also very useful because it is a school so is indoors and because our planning locations where all inside this helped us. This helped because we felt that judging by the time of year and the weather forecast for the dates we filmed (on a previous post) we thought it best to film indoors as we could be affected by very low temperatures, rain or snow.

where title credits will be in film

We will hope to create unique credits which will  match well with the background colours, be able to see and be a suitable size. We will may use a white colour as it stands out well to the background colours. We might also use red as it is a connotation for blood which is a main theme of our title sequence. The credits will also be a suitable size and will appear on screen at appropriate times to create a more professional look to our title sequence.

Our main aim is to make sure colours and fonts are able to read, match other colours and also relate or connote to our title sequence idea in general.

This is the feedback which our teacher Louisa has given us after our first edit session of our footage. It is just rough editing but gives an idea of the order our clips will be put in. Using our teachers help we will be able to build from this and make our title sequence editing look more professional. 

To improve we will try to use a filter in order to keep the camera colour the same throughout the sequence to give it a more professional look. We will also use more fade in or fade out transitions as they make the footage look more realistic as some of our shots are cut and have no transition and you can tell it has been filmed at a different time. Finally, we will try to improve the sound in dialogue so that the audience can hear better which helps them connect to the title sequence and also to make it realistic also. We must also remember reflections in class and stuff because sometimes we can see the camera in the reflection. 

                                                                                                                                                                        

Camera Equipment - CHARLIE LANE


When filming we used a piece of equipment called a dolly camera. This is a type of tripod but with wheels.

camera dolly is a specialised piece of filmmaking and television production equipment designed to create smooth camera movements (cinematic techniques). The camera is mounted to the dolly and the camera operator and focus puller or camera assistant usually ride on the dolly to operate the camera. The dolly grip is the dedicated technician trained to operate the dolly.

This was helpful to us because it helped make smooth moving shots when Tim was explaining his top 5 kills to the camera as a monologue. This helped create a realism to the film but also interaction to the audience and a comical side also just like in Ferris Bueller.

the weather for filming next week











I have taken a screen print of the weather for next week between Tuesday 3rd and the 6th of February. Me and my group have done this as this will help us to plan ahead for our filming. We start filming on Tuesday and according to the weather it will rain on tuesday which is why our title sequence shots will be in-doors. The rest of the week has quite low temperatures which could result in more rain or even snow. This is why me and my group have planned ahead and plan to film the majority if not all of our shots in-doors. As our movie is based inside in a high school or college we will not have the problem of weather or snow.
